ARCHBISHOP NDINGI MARKS 40 YEARS OF EPISCOPATE Archbishop Raphael Ndingi celebrated his 40th year of episcopate in a colourful mass held at Christ the King Cathedral in Nakuru on Saturday 10th October 2009. Hundreds of catholic faithful including the religious attended the mass. Also present were Bishop Philip Anyolo of Homabay Diocese and Apostolic Administrator of Catholic Diocese of Nakuru and Bishop Alfred Rotich of the Military Ordinariate. Fr. Stephen Mbugua delivered the Homily. Archbishop Ndingi thanked the people for their support and prayers and promised to continue helping and serving the people in whatever ways he can. His Grace Archbishop Ndingi Mwana a’Nzeki was born in Machakos, Mwala Division in 1931. He is the son of the late Mr. Joseph Nzeki Ngila and the late Mama Maria Muthoki. He was baptized in 1945 by Fr. Edward Fitz (Holy Ghost) He went to primary in Manyani, Etikoni and Kabaa Primary Schools. He studied in Kilimambogo Seminary and later trained as a teacher at Kilimambogo TTC as P3 teacher. In 1957, he joined St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary Morogoro to study theology. He was ordained priest on 1st January 1961. In 1967, he proceeded to St. John Fischer College Rochester in the U.S.A. for further studies, attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science.
On 3rd June 1969,
he was consecrated Bishop of the Diocese of Machakos by Pope Paul VI. He was
later transferred and installed the Bishop of Nakuru on 30th January
1972 at Afraha Stadium. He took over from the late Fr. Denis Newman who was the
Administrator of the Diocese. He worked very hard to see that Nakuru Diocese
progressed in all aspects. Archbishop of Nairobi Archdiocese On 27th June 1996, he was appointed the co-adjutor Archbishop of Nairobi. He later became the Archbishop of Nairobi, till his retirement on 6th October 2007 as the primate of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. We thank God for the good work His Grace did for the Dioceses of Machakos, Nakuru, Nairobi and the entire country.
Rev. Dr. Fr. Stephen Mbugua celebrated his 25th year of Priesthood in a colourful Mass at the Christ the King Cathedral in Nakuru on Saturday 17th October 2009. Hundreds of Catholic faithful including the religious attended the mass. The Homily was delivered by the Vicar General Very Rev. Moses Muraya. Rev. Dr. Fr. Stephen Mbugua Ngari is a Priest of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru. He was born on 16th March 1959 in Molo as a son to William Ngari and Esther Wambui. He was ordained priest on 6th October, 1984 in Molo. He has certification in Philosophy and Theology. He obtained a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree from the U.S.A. He obtained his PhD from Egerton University in 2000. He has worked in the Bishop’s Office, various parishes as well as St. Joseph’s Seminary Molo before joining Egerton University as Chaplain in 1996. Upon becoming the Chaplain he was consequently appointed Lecturer in the Department of Psychology, Counselling and Education Foundations, where he later served as Chairman. Fr. Mbugua has risen the ranks at Egerton University to become the Dean of Students and currently he is the Director of Student Welfare Services. He is a Senior Lecturer and supervisor of Masters and PhD Theses. He is also currently the chairman of the Education Board of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, a member of Radio Amani committee as well as a member of the Bishop’s College of Consultors. Among his major contributions to the church and social welfare are the construction of the modern St. Joseph’s Seminary, St Paul’s Church, Holy Trinity Milimani Parish , Molo Parish as well as the ongoing Christ the King Cathedral Hall in Nakuru. He is currently coordinating an exchange program between Egerton University and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (U.S.A). He also coordinates the St. John Fisher College programme with the Catholic Dioceses of Nakuru among others.
He has published various
articles in refereed journals and recently, published a book titled Theories
of Personality and Counselling. His mission in life is to serve humanity
towards their human and divine vocations and to be a true priest of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
SOCIAL PROGRAMME On 17th October 2009 Barclays Bank- "Community Services Voluntary" joined hands with the programe to mark the day of community week through donation and planting trees at St. Francis Rehabilitation Centre On 21st October 2009 Social Welfare programme organized the groups working within the programmes for the inter-programme award scheme change. Change Care Group under Social Welfare emerged the winner on the social cluster. The function took place at St. Mary's Pastoral Centre and was officiated by the Vicar General Very Rev. Fr. Moses Muraya together with the guest of honour Mr&Mrs John McCarrick. The total number of groups were 12, this included four groups from Social Welfare, four from Water and four from Agriculture.
RADIO AMANI GOES ON AIR Amani FM Radio Station has started broadcasting to residents of Nakuru Town and its environs. Radio Amani 88.3 FM is a project of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru. It has a coverage of 60km radius from the Diocese Secretariat. Radio Amani’s slogan is “Ngome ya Nyumbani”.

EDUCATION On 8th to 25th September 2009 the Education office conducted a school assessment day. The assessors were New Horizon Education Back up Services Limited (NHEDS) and the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru. The Schools based Assessment was organized with the view of: a) Establishing the state and level of the institution in the curriculum delivery b) The level of teachers’ preparation and adequacy c) The state, number and relevancy of the staff available. d) Effectiveness of the management/administration e) General state of the institution as an education business centre

Possible
way forward in order to improve the service delivery and ultimately benefit the
learners. Methods Used: · Direct interviews on one to one basis · Observation · Reference to records. Conclusion In summary the following would also benefit the smooth running of the Education office. a) Education office needs personnel reinforcement for purpose of regular assessment. b) Urgent follow-up is needed on areas of concern indicated during assessment. c) Need to consider transfer of heads who have over stayed in particular institution. NB: The heads of institutions to receive the assessment feed back in a special end of the year CDN/heads meeting.
